Echo on Land Line

Very rarly some people find that setting up the XLink with a real landline introduces echo. This seems to happen with marginal phone lines and certain quality telephones. The echo is almost always just in one direction.

Firstm to confirm that the XLink is part of the cause, make a phone call with the XLink plugged into power and also with the XLink unplugged. If there is a significant difference then continue with the steps below.

The XLink is optimized for the standard FCC defined telephone circuit. Some telephone lines deviate significantly from the specified standards.

There are two ways to adjust the XLink to better match your specific line conditions. Note that this is rarely necessary, but the ability is there if required.

1. Use the XWizard Software

  1. Download and install the XWizard Update and Configuration Software
  2. Run the XWizard Software and follow the instructions to connect to your XLink
  3. Press the Configure button
  4. Go to the Advanced tab and then choose Show Advanced Options
  5. Choose the 'Land Line' tab at the top
  6. Adjust the Network Balance to any of the available options and choose 'Save Changes'
  7. Test the new setting

The name of each setting is the country that it is optimized for on a ideal land line, but any setting can be used anywhere. Choose the one that sounds best for you.

2. Change the Setting from Telephone

  1. Pick up any telephone that is connected to the XLink
  2. Dial * * *. The XLink will send version information to the telephone as Caller ID
  3. Now dial 6 * #. The XLink will go to the next setting and then reset.
  4. Test the new setting and repeat as necessary until the best setting is found
